Dr. Valiante graduated from the MD/PhD program at the University of Toronto in 1997, with a PhD in physiology. In that year he began his neurosurgical residency at the University of Toronto, and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 2003. He then pursued an epilepsy neurosurgery fellowship at the University of Washington, Seattle, under the mentorship of Dr George Ojemann. In 2003, Dr. Valiante was recruited back to the University of Toronto where he launched his research programs. His neurosurgical staff appointment is at the Toronto Western Hospital with a practice in adult epilepsy surgery. He is Associate Professor in Neurosurgery with cross appointments to Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering. He serves as Co-Director of the Epilepsy Program at the Krembil Neuroscience Centre, University Health Network, is a Scientists at the Krembil Research Institute, and Co-Director of CRANIA (Center for Advancing Neurotechnological Innovation to Application).
