Science Program Officer
The Kavli Foundation
Stephanie Albin joined The Kavli Foundation as a Science Program Officer in September 2017. Dr. Albin received her B.S. from MIT in Biology and completed her Ph.D. in Neuroscience at the University of California, San Francisco. She researched the neural circuitry encoding hunger state and feeding behavior in Drosophila melanogaster while a postdoctoral fellow at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI)’s Janelia Research Campus. Prior to joining the Foundation, Dr. Albin spent two years as an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science and Technology Policy Fellow stationed at the National Science Foundation (NSF) in the Division of Chemistry. At NSF, she worked on NSF-wide priorities such as the U.S. Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies (BRAIN) Initiative. At the Kavli Foundation, Dr. Albin continues to provide catalytic support for US BRAIN Initiative related activities, as well as the Foundation’s broader neuroscience efforts. For example, she is leading the Foundation’s participation in the Neurodata Without Borders project (nwb.org)—an effort to break down barriers to data sharing by developing a unified data format for cellular-based neurophysiology data.
