Assistant Professor
University of California, Los Angeles
Sotiris Masmanidis studied Physics at University College London, and completed a PhD in Applied Physics under the supervision of Michael Roukes at Caltech. From 2006 to 2011 he was appointed a Broad Fellow in Brain Circuitry at Caltech, during which he worked on the development of nanofabricated neural recording devices. Since 2012 he has been an Assistant Professor of Neurobiology at UCLA. His lab’s expertise lies at the intersection of neuroscience and neural engineering. He is leveraging large-scale recording tools developed by his lab, and complementary technologies such as optogenetics, to study neural dynamics and information processing in the cortex and basal ganglia during reward-guided behavior. As part of his commitment to making electrophysiology tools open-source, he has shared hundreds of neural probes with the neuroscience community.
